join... the......dots...........

The one day after work, I was sitting at the desk, doodling tattoo ideas and started drawing out dots, I’d recently been re-listening to the song on repeat.

So I started mapping out different ways of how I could join the dots, fonts, bubble writing and dots, then came to this, not only as a homage to one of my favourite hip hop songs, but it's also quite literal, when you go and look at it as an observer, what are you doing? you’re joining the dots.

There is so much of Roots Manuva discography that soundtracks different moods and moments of my life. The moment when I first discovered, Join the Dots was 2019, a breakthrough year for me and I decided to mark it with this tattoo.

Side story - A couple of years later I was on Bandcamp looking at Roots Manuva merchandise and there were ‘Witness the fitness’ jerseys. I bought one but there was some confusion with the delivery, which ended up with an in person meet up with his manager/partner, where I told her what a huge fan I was and I ended up showing her this tattoo.

She said she had to show Rodney/Roots Manuva and ended up putting Rodney on the phone. I was speechless, it’s one of my proudest moments.

Out of a mishap a beautiful end came and it was all because of the tattoo, Join the dots.

It was a beautiful coming together of worlds, I’ll never forget it.

Who doesn’t love a Join the Dots moment? Can you remember your last Join the Dots moment?

Tattoo - Join the Dots

Thanks to David for sharing his tattoo story.

This tattoo was inked 2019, I grew up listening to a lot of hip hop. UK hip hop was shown to me through the eyes of Roots Manuva and he’s been an integral part of my musical knowledge in general.

Whilst delving on youtube I discovered he’d made a song with Chali 2na of Jurassic Five and this collaboration blew my mind.

Chali 2na has the distinctive low voice, memorable demeanour, a haughtiness, he sounds quite dark but very light hearted due to his lyrical content and Roots Manuva with his juxtaposed lighter cadence, which I love, the ying yang on the song.
